Letter from the President...
College tuition increases in recent
years have far exceeded increases in average family income. Loans
continue to replace grants as the major source of student assistance.
Even with Pullman support, our 2005 graduates are embarking on their
careers owing an average of more than $13,500. Rising college costs
are especially burdensome for low-income families (families earning $25,000
or less per year). The cost of college as a percentage of family income has
risen substantially for low-income families in the last decade. Furthermore,
students
from low- and moderate- income families are caught between rising college
costs and a critical shortfall in student financial aid, which make their
dreams of a college education and greater possibilities for the future
increasingly elusive.
Your generous contribution to the Foundation's work has never been more important: to high school seniors hoping to attend
their first choice among universities; to families digging deeper into their
savings--or into debt--to give their children the advantage of a college
education.
At the Foundation, we continue to
help the next generation of students achieve academic
success. Please browse through the sections about our programs. We are most grateful for every
dollar of your support, and count on your continued generosity as we move
ahead in this challenging era. All contributions are used exclusively
for scholarships.
I encourage you to use our online donation form to make your
tax-deductible donation. Make your gift go even farther by letting us
know if your employer has a matching gift program.
Best wishes,
Phillip L. Miller
